One day, a famous priest, Gyouki, was travelling around, preaching to the people, and came to Daisen. When he wanted to practice asceticism here, he found that there was not enough water to do so. According to legend, he prayed to Monju Bodhisattva and cracked a rock with his kongousho tool. Water began to flow and later it was called “blessed water of Bodhisattva” as it continued to spring up. People would visit believing they could have beautiful hair by rinsing it with this water. It is also said that if you pour it on a wound or diseased spot, it would heal instantly.
